Jamie Downie is a highly skilled psychotherapist dedicated to helping adolescents, adults, and couples navigate life’s challenges while building greater resilience, self-awareness, and emotional well-being. He believes that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship and works collaboratively with clients to create a treatment experience that is supportive, individualized, and aligned with their personal goals. Jamie is committed to helping clients identify obstacles that may be limiting growth, develop healthier coping strategies, and cultivate lasting change that extends beyond the therapy room.

Jamie works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use concerns, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem challenges, identity exploration, emotional dysregulation, grief and loss, and personality-related concerns. He also provides affirming and inclusive care for LGBTQIA+ individuals and supports clients exploring issues related to gender identity, sexual orientation, self-acceptance, belonging, and the impact of societal and cultural pressures on mental health. Jamie recognizes that each person’s experiences are unique and strives to create a space where clients feel respected, understood, and empowered to show up authentically.

His therapeutic style combines structure, insight, creativity, and compassion. Jamie helps clients better understand the connections among their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships, and develop practical tools to improve daily functioning and overall quality of life. He draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed approaches to create treatment plans tailored to each client’s individual needs and strengths.

Jamie earned his Master of Social Work degree from New York University Silver School of Social Work, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a concentration in substance use treatment and co-occurring disorders. His training and clinical experience have equipped him to work with a wide range of mental health concerns while maintaining a thoughtful, strengths-based approach that recognizes the complexity of each client’s story.

In addition to his clinical experience, Jamie has completed extensive post-graduate training in trauma treatment, CBT, DBT, REBT, substance use disorders, personality disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, suicide assessment and intervention, racial trauma, LGBTQIA+ affirmative care, psychodynamic approaches, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. He has specialized training to help couples improve communication, rebuild trust, strengthen emotional connection, and navigate conflict in healthier, more productive ways.

Jamie has also pursued advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). These specialized modalities allow him to support individuals struggling with trauma, treatment-resistant depression, persistent anxiety, and other challenges that may not have fully responded to traditional therapy approaches. He thoughtfully integrates these treatments when clinically appropriate, combining innovative interventions with evidence-based psychotherapy to support deeper healing and long-term growth.

Committed to lifelong learning and professional development, Jamie regularly participates in advanced training and continuing education to remain current with emerging research and best practices in mental health care. His goal is to help clients strengthen their relationship with themselves, build healthier relationships with others, and develop the confidence and skills necessary to live more meaningful, connected, and fulfilling lives.
