Integrative, evidence-based therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, and relational challenges.
Amanda Carnesecchi, LMSW, is an Associate Therapist who works with clients navigating anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance use, trauma, life transitions, grief, ADHD, and relationship and family concerns. Her approach is engaged, collaborative, and individualized, helping clients understand the patterns influencing their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing practical strategies for meaningful change.
Amanda draws on evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Motivational Interviewing, integrating a strengths-based, trauma-informed perspective throughout her work. She considers the whole person—their experiences, relationships, environment, strengths, and challenges—to better understand what may be contributing to current difficulties. Her work focuses on building insight, strengthening emotional regulation and coping skills, and helping clients develop healthier and more effective ways of navigating their lives.
Amanda’s clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, and adults across diverse settings, including supporting young people with autism and special needs. Her experience includes anxiety, emotional regulation, trauma, substance use, relationship concerns, and complex family dynamics.
Through her experience with the FDNY Counseling Services Unit, Amanda has been involved in suicide prevention initiatives, peer support programming, and group services for individuals struggling with addiction. This work has strengthened her understanding of the impact that trauma, high-stress environments, loss, and substance use can have on an individual’s emotional well-being.
Prior to becoming a therapist, Amanda worked as a Case Manager and Intake Specialist at the Staten Island Justice Center, supporting justice-involved adults facing complex concerns including trauma, serious mental illness, substance use, housing instability, and systemic barriers. Her work incorporated individualized case planning, advocacy, restorative practices, and Motivational Interviewing—experience that continues to inform her ability to understand clients within the broader context of their lives.
Amanda earned her Master of Social Work from NYU’s Silver School of Social Work, with a concentration in mental health service delivery. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology with a minor in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Ithaca College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. While at Ithaca, she researched the relationship between social media use and interpersonal relationships and presented her work at academic conferences.
Amanda believes therapy should help clients not only understand why they are struggling, but also determine what they can do differently moving forward. She creates a space where clients can be honest, challenge patterns that no longer serve them, recognize their strengths, and develop the skills and self-awareness needed for lasting change.
